Wondering what to do this school holidays? Stardome can entertain you rain or shine with a fun and educational astronomy show. This Winter our theme is Matariki so we’ll be taking a look at this special cluster of stars and learning about them.
Children get to watch the popular animated planetarium show ‘Big’ followed by a projection of the night sky as our Education Presenters talk about the significance of the Matariki star cluster that heralds Maori New Year, and how you can find it in the night sky. Then get creative in an educational arts and crafts session building your own kites.
One of the most asked questions about the Universe is, “How big is it?” It’s also one of the hardest questions to answer! The animated planetarium show ‘Big’ tries to answer this question in a way children will understand, by taking us on a journey into space where we learn about the speed of light and observe celestial objects. ‘Big’ is narrated by Sir Richard Attenborough and is suitable for the whole family.
