The association of playcentres in Canterbury; a play center is a licensed early childhood organization that provides sessions for children to learn and explore through play, from birth to six years of age.
Playcentres started in Christchurch and Wellington in 1941 as a result of the needs of mothers and children during wartime. Owing to population changes, of the four original centers in Christchurch only Fendalton is still in existence.
Playcentre is a Ministry of Education licensed family focused Early Childhood provider for children from birth to school. For over 70 years in Canterbury we have been building supportive communities, by developing and providing early childhood education for children and their whanau.
