Established in 1998 the Chatham Island Taiko Trust was created to conserve the taiko and other unique Chatham Island wildlife as an integral part of the Chatham Island landscape. Although originally created to help save the endangered taiko, the Trust’s has expanded its aims to provide the Chatham Island community with the opportunity and tools needed to preserve and enhance natural habitats and wildlife on their unique islands.
Tui spread across Island - As the breeding season approaches tui have been seen right across the island following the successful transfer of 54 birds over the past two years.
Seabird transfers - a transfer of 14 juvenile tui has seen these charismatic birds returned to the Main Island after a 20 year absence.
