For under five year olds, YMCA provide a child minding service to all centre users for a small additional charge. Parents or guardians can therefore enjoy the programmes and services offered by YMCA and be comforted in the knowledge their children are being well looked after. Check before you go – some centres require you to stay on the premises at all times.
Y-Under Fives Licensed Early Childhood Centre
We offer a licensed early childhood centre Monday to Friday from 1.00pm. Over $20,000 has been spent on equipment over the past three years and our dedicated qualified staff ensure your little ones are well cared for during their stay. Bookings are essential as numbers are limited to strict Ministry of Education guidelines.
Our philosophy in Y-Under Fives is that all children learn through play. It is through play they grow as competent and confident learners who are able to communicate, feel secure as individuals and make a valued contribution to society.
The curriculum integrates care and education in both planned and spontaneous experiences. It will emerge from observations of children at play and will take account of each child's learning needs. Children will experience an environment where they feel they belong, are safe, healthy and respected.
Parents and Whanau are the most significant educators in children's lives. At Y-Under Fives parents and Whanau enter a partnership with the child to provide a strong foundation on which the child can build life skills and be extended to achieve their individual potential.
Special needs:
Please feel free to share any information with us that you feel will help the staff provide the best care and education necessary for your child. We welcome all children into our centre if a vacancy exists. If your child requires specialist support, please discuss with the supervisor so we can offer appropriate support.
Communication:
This is key to a partnership. We will keep you informed by way of daily contact with the staff, especially the Supervisor, the parent noticeboard and newsletters. If you wish to discuss the progress of your child or have a concern, please do not hesitate to contact the Supervisor, who will arrange for the opportunity to discuss it. A suggestion box is also available for feedback. All comments made will be considered by the supervisor and management and where addresses are left, replied to.
Morning tea:
Please provide a piece of fruit for the children to share and a drink for your child. We encourage healthy nutritious food and discourage chips, lollies and fizzy drinks. Due to the high number of children with an allergy to nuts, we ask that no food be provided with nuts or nut extracts eg: peanut butter.
Parent/Whanau Participation:
Parents/Whanau are an important part of our centre. We welcome your involvement, whether it is through participation within our programme or bringing collage items such as scrap paper. If you have any concerns or suggestions, please discuss with the Supervisor or Centre Manager.
We hope you feel part of our centre and your child has a happy association with us.
Child Care hours:
The child care centre is open mornings 8.30 am -12 noon and afternoons 1- 4 pm.
