The Howick Gymnastic Club is a non-profit organisation and has been in existence since 1976. The Club concentrates on training girls and boys between pre-school to mid-teens in Introductory and Competitive Gymnastics up to and including Level 3. Rhythmic Gymnastics and Advanced Trampolining are seen as areas for other, specialist, clubs and outside the scope of our activities, although we will offer Basic Trampolining.

The club is an incorporated society run voluntarily with a president, secretary, treasurer and committee of up to four. The members of the club are mostly the gymnasts, who each, because of their age, nominate an adult as their representative and spokesperson for administrative purposes. Interested adults may also be members in their own right.

Affiliation is to the national body, Gymsports New Zealand, and through them to the international gymnastics organisation.

Training is conducted either by coaches who are fully qualified by Gymsports NZ, or by junior coaches undergoing the current Gymsports NZ two year training scheme (C.I.T.). Four of the senior coaches are qualified Gymnastics judges.

Gymnasts normally train for one hour, once a week when beginning, and can progress to more hours as their abilities and enthusiasm grow, and as their budgets permit.

Training times are:

  • Girls aged 5 to 6 and advanced level 1c: 4.00 - 5.00 pm Monday and Thursday
  • Girls aged 7 to 9: 5.00 - 6.00 pm Monday and Thursday
  • Advanced level 2c: 5.00pm - 6.30pm Monday and Thursday
  • Girls aged 10 years and over 6.00 - 7.00 pm Monday and Thursday. Tuesday 5.00pm to 6.00pm
  • Advanced level 3 and open 6.30pm - 8.00pm. Monday and Thursday

Boys aged 5 - 7: 4.00pm - 5.00 pm, aged 8 - 13: 5.00pm - 6.00pm Monday and Thursday

Gymnasts training for one hour a week can elect to attend any one of the classes running during the week where class size permits. Newcomers are encouraged to come for a 'try-out' session before committing to join.

Fees currently start at $127.00 a term for one hour a week including an affiliation fee which is paid to Gymsport New Zealand, plus a joining fee.
