The Koshinkai Aikido Dojo is independent of any international or national organisation. The hierarchical system of grading is de-emphasised, and priority is given to a non-competitive, creative atmosphere with equal respect accorded to all students.
Children's Classes:
Aikido is a Japanese martial art, which can be translated as the ‘Way of Harmony’ or the ‘Way of Harmony with Universal Energy’.
It is a non-competitive and harmonious art, in which children will learn non-aggressive and effective self-defence techniques that aim to end conflict without using violence or unnecessary force.
Children will learn how to defend themselves by blending rather than resisting, re-directing attacks and unbalancing their partner whilst remaining in control of the situation.
Techniques have a focus on the student remaining centered and stable using minimal strength, however if necessary, controlled force can be applied.
The mind and body aspect in aikido is important, along with the development of ‘Ki’.
Ki is commonly defined as ”breath”, “energy” or “spirit”. In Oriental medicine and martial arts, it refers to a subtle form of vital energy.
This energy, directed by our mind and breath, enables our body to carry out techniques with a sense of connection, relaxation and inner calmness.
This helps us to remain centered, balanced and focused in our aikido practice and in our everyday lives.
Aikido, in addition to self-defence and fitness, can develop children’s self-confidence and self-discipline, mind – body co-ordination, social skills and morals.
