The Glendowie Boating Club, founded in 1949, is situated at the mouth of the Tamaki River in the eastern suburbs of Auckland. The mouth of the river is an ideal environment for this family oriented club.
The club has three classes sailing most days, Arrows, Starlings and Optimists with fleets of around 60 to 70 boats active on each sailing day. The GBC Learn to Sail Squad is the ideal training ground for aspiring sailors. Experienced Club Instructors coach the Squad out on the water every Sunday during the sailing season. The club also offers development programmes for every level.
There is ample parking available in Glendowie Rd. for sailors and spectators alike and boat ramps have been built to provide easy access to the beach for rigging and launching. Within the club house, there is room for 140 centre boarders and dinghies in addition to the mooring area for keelers. Other facilities include a lounge, control tower, galley and ample decks very close to the action for maximum spectator enjoyment.
