Three Kings United was created in 1997 as the result of the amalgamation of the Eden Association Football Club and the Mt Roskill Association Football Club. Eden had been in existence since 1947 and Mt Roskill since 1954.
Whilst both clubs had teams at all levels, it was felt that combining the strength of Eden’s large Junior and Youth base of players and Mt Roskill’s successful senior programme and better club and ground facilities, we would create a club second to none in New Zealand. The results have exceeded expectations, the club has become very popular with membership increasing every year.
Three Kings United now runs through the year, providing summer and winter competition and tournaments to over 2000 registered players. The membership covers men, women, boys and girls, split across over 100 junior teams, over 70 youth teams and over 20 senior teams. Today TKU is the largest football club within New Zealand and possibly the largest sporting club in the country.
As well as being impressive in terms of Quantity, Three Kings United is also the very best club in terms of Quality. We estimate that in 2008, Three Kings youth teams comprised 15% of total youth teams from all clubs registered to the Auckland Football Federation. However, as the following statistics show, our various successes are disproportionate to our numbers – we achieve far more than we should given our size. Well done to everyone at the club who has contributed to this success over the years.
Juniors:
The objectives of Junior football:
Team Placement:
5th Grade: is different from all other grades because players are not put into teams. The format is based around an introduction to basic soccer ball skills, co-ordination, agility, and having fun while learning and playing. All 5th grade players should meet at the training pitch in front of the clubrooms on Saturday 2 May by 8.30am.
6th & 7th Grade: The Junior Committee will form teams on the basis of common schools, address, etc. There will be no trials in these grades. Teams should be formed, and parents contacted just before Anzac Day – April 25. First playing day is Saturday 2 May.
8th & 9th Grade: There will be a Platinum league and also Gold and Silver leagues. All teams will be formed and parents contacted just before Anzac Day – April 25. First playing day is Saturday 2 May.
Football Gear:
Players will need TKU shorts and socks. A shirt will be provided by the club. The team shirts should all be washed and kept together (by player of the day?), and not taken home separately.
Soccer boots, shin pads, balls etc will be on sale. All players should have their own, named, size 3 ball. Payment for these purchases is made directly to Champs Sports.
