WaterSafe Auckland promote building a water safety culture for the region through parent education and awareness of water safety issues. These issues include supervision, drowning prevention and water familiarisation for young children. WaterSafe Auckland Inc. (WAI) is recognised regionally as the coordinating body for drowning prevention, including water safety promotion and education.
Our Vision - To enjoy safe aquatic experiences
Our Mission - To build a water safety culture through effective collaboration, education and promotion
Our Goals and Objectives are based on the governmental Drowning Prevention Strategy. WAI actively uses this and the NZ Injury Prevention Strategy (NZIPS) as tools to build a water safety culture.
Auckland region's water safety needs are unique - geographically, demographically and statistically. No single organisation or intervention can ensure the safety in, on and around water for the more than 1.4m people living in the region.
Organisations and individuals must work together to build safe communities.
It was from this need that representatives from local government, education, aquatic interest groups, research, injury prevention and health and safety formed WaterSafe Auckland Incorporated (WAI) in 1994.
WAI continues to work in partnership and this cross-sector approach enables the messages to be consistent, streamlined and with wider projection and spread across the community.
Education:
WaterSafe Auckland (WAI) supports the development of creating a water safety culture in the wider education sector. This is achieved by producing and promoting water safety resources, offering professional development and supplying ongoing expertise and research findings from early child-hood educators, through to tertiary, principals and boards of trustees.
Community:
This section provides parents, students and the general public with information on water safety in the community. It includes information for parents of young children, legislative and safety requirements for pool owners, resources, safe summer activities and events.
