Kids and parents really enjoy a day out canoeing on the Puhoi River. Children from the age of about 4yrs can go canoeing with their parents - but they are more likely to enjoy it from the age of 6yrs. The Puhoi River is tidal, so ring and check out tide timetable before making the trip. Bookings essential.
Puhoi River Canoe Hire is a successful small family business operating from our home, adjacent to the historic Bohemian landing site on the banks of the Puhoi River.
We, New Zealanders, affectionately refer to ourselves as 'Kiwis'. We are proud of our Kiwi heritage, our family, and our unique outdoor kiwi lifestyle.
On the 29th June 1863 the first 83 Bohemian pioneers from which our family descended were dropped off at Wenderholm and paddled up this meandering waterway by local Maori.
'Puhoi' is a Maori name and translates to 'slow-water' which refers to the slow gentle tide that ebbs and flows the 8km to Puhoi Village from the sea.
Then decide how many paddlers there will be and what type of kayak or canoe each would prefer.
We have seats for 60 adult paddlers made up of -
- 40 Single Kayaks (suitable for beginner paddlers)
- 8 Double Kayaks (2 adults + 1 child up to 5yrs)
- 2 Canadian Canoes (2 adults + 2 children under 8yrs or
- 3 adults - there must be 2 people capable of paddling)

- Single Kayak: $20
- Double Kayak: $40
- Canadian Canoe: $40
We operate Puhoi River Kayak Trips daily: 1 September - 30 June except Christmas Day Gift Vouchers Available.
