Old MacDonalds Mobile Farm was sold to the Abel family of Waitakere in 2001, which they ran for about 6 years. In June 2007 Old MacDonalds Mobile Farm was taken over by Farmer Ben and Farmer Nicki, a brother and sister team.
Farmer Ben as a youngster worked for Old MacDonalds Traveling Farmyard going out on the trucks to schools, kindys, birthdays and also worked at Kiwi Valley Farm Park when it opened for Kathy and Larry Park. Then in his late teens, Farmer Ben moved on in life and started up a couple of small businesses. He has a great love for animals and a passion for teaching children about animals. He now runs Old MacDonalds Mobile Farm from a 15 acre farm in Waitakere with his wife, Farmer Crystal.
We bring our sheep, pigs, goats, rabbits, guinea pigs, chooks, ducks, the rat family, baby lamb, piglet and calf for bottle-feeding when in season, farm dog, and small pony for pony rides - all set in a mini-barn scene.
The specially-built all-weather mobile unit drops the ramp, and the sides "pop" out to provide ample room for the children to come on board and visit with the animals - and in fine weather we bring many of the animals outside for better access.
The children are shown how to hand-feed the older animals with a feed mixture which we supply, and everyone has a turn at bottle-feeding the babies. And of course, many children's favourite event, the pony rides.
