MOTAT tells the story of the people who built and used New Zealand’s early technology, complete with exhibition halls full of buses, cars, fire engines, trains and aircraft. There’s also an activity centre with a range of interactive, hands-on exhibits which are entertaining, informative and fun for children of all ages. Taking a tram ride is an essential part of the visit and they run regularly throughout the day. There's also a cafe at the museum.

MOTAT is New Zealand's largest and leading transport and technology museum. Within 40 acres, MOTAT will take you on an interactive journey through many of the technological achievements that have helped shape New Zealand.

In addition to permanent exhibitions, MOTAT always has touring exhibitions and special events. See our SCHOOL HOLS section for more about their holiday programme.

For information, including current events and exhibitions, call the MOTAT Infoline 0800 MOTATNZ (0800 668 286).
Hours: 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday daily, except Christmas Day.
