Cheltenham beach is a very popular beach – and for good reason. It's a lovely white-sand beach that is great for swimming and has fantastic views of Rangitoto. This is a tidal beach though, so do check the tide times before making the trip and watch the kids carefully. It's a perfect location for a picnic, or you can wander into Devonport for a bite to eat at one of the many local kids friendly cafes - see our EATING OUT section for details. There's also a small playground at Bath Park, at the northern end of the beach and a toilet block. For the adventurous There is easy access up steps to North Head.
