Fifty minutes drive from central Auckland is Te Henga or Bethells beach. This is a beautiful location for a picnic and a great drive for a day out. Kids love the surf – but make sure they are well supervised, as the beach can be dangerous. Even if you don’t want the kids to swim there's lots to keep them occupied – such as caves and rocks to explore, or just playing on the beach. During summer through to about the end of August - there's an excellent cafe/takeaway van with outside tables serving superb coffee and snacks.
