A great opportunity to go back in time and experience riding behind a real steam locomotive. The 12 kilometre round trip on the train takes about 45 minutes and runs through rural South Auckland. Other features at the station include jigger rides and locomotive workshop tours. There's also a picnic area and children’s playground.

Parents can sit back and relax in the child friendly Papillon Bar and Café or adjacent courtyard while the kids go wild in Curly’s playground. Auckland Zoo is a must visit for children of all ages. They’ll love exploring the News Talk ZB Rain forest, Primate Trail and Sea lion and Penguin Shore. Not to mention the Kiwi and Tuatara House and Pride lands - a recreation of an African Savannah with lions, rhinos, giraffes, zebras and springbok. Their daily animal 'Encounters' enable you to see the animals feeding and playing close up. Make sure you check timings and schedules on arrival at the Zoo. The Safari Train is available for a tour round the Zoo.

This working farm, which is run by the Auckland Regional Council, is a great place to take the kids, particularly during the summer months. They’ll get to see cows, chooks, peacocks and lots of other farm animals, as well as feeding and milking shows. What’s more it’s free!
